The What's Going on at Apple Thread

To be fair the iPhone X isn’t out so no real world tests have been done. I’m opting for an iPhone X. No one is forcing anyone to buy the iPhone X. Its and iPhone 8 with a handful of upgrades. If you buy the 8 you won’t miss out anything in the slightest. If your of the ilk that you want something more, premium, different, etc then Apple will sell you the iPhone X. How different is it to Nokia and the 8800/8900 series back in the day? I have no issue with choice. If Apple hobbled the iPhone 8 that would be wrong. They haven’t. I remain skeptical of FaceID but I’ll give Apple the doubt. They’ve shoved a mini Kinect in there rather than using a camera. Let’s see. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    What's going on at Samsung

Yeah, our perspective tends to get skewed, I doubt the average person cares, I think its been a bit more an an issue in the USA though.

Fair play, what I'd like to see is not shiny new hardware but 2-3 year old H/W and how it performs, I think that would be interesting.

My bad, don't think there is as much as mobile in the laptop market. Better S/W drivers (less buggy can work closer to the H/W) to allow greater power savings buy utilizing all the power saving and performance features available would be the biggest practical benefit I can think of.

I would assume so, Google talked up that aspect quite a lot in recent press. How much of that is actually true is difficult to ascertain. My guess is they've done work on drivers and some light interface work, which would make a huge difference, Then again I wouldn't call the S7E slow either, so a matter debate.

    What's going on at Samsung

I think the public will forget eventually in 6-12 months. I saw lots on insight on the various network outages that O2 suffered a few years ago. Customer annoyance peaked but gradually tailed off normal levels a few months down the line. Same public that ranked MVNO's network performance higher than the carrier network they were on. Its all about perception of a brand and the Samsung brand is probably strong enough to weather this I suspect. There will be jokes for years but I can see customers opting of the next Samsung S8 without much hesitation. Especially if they are swayed by discounts/offers/promotions to take one. PR nightmare no doubt for Samsung, but Hotpoint 9 (I think) had exploding washing a few years ago that made Watchdog, they are still in business.

Apple can control things like power regulation with more granulation, turning off portions of silicon much faster, cycling processor speeds up/down with greater aggression or fine tuning the communication between the OS & H/W because there are less variations of H/W to take into account. Android devices have hundreds of different configurations which Android has to support so can never approach that level of control as there is no guarantee the H/W will always be there. We've seen how top spec Snapdragon 820/821 devices vary in daily use (drivers, skins and other customisations are usually the reason).

    Seriously unimpressed with Vodafone

Honestly I was happy with Vodafone for coverage and WiFi calling was the icing on the cake. However CS is paramount for me. When it goes wrong I need it fixed ASAP. They failed miserably on this. Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk

    Windows 10

Still sad when people loose there jobs. The more interesting question is can Microsoft be relevant in the mobile space? Software wise they seem to be gaining ground but its a long battle Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk

Tesco Mobile outsourcing their CS to Crapita.

A couple of points to remember: Tesco Mobile staff were housed in the same building as the O2/capita staff. So possibly there hand may have been forced. Do feel sorry for the call centre staff. They saw there o2 colleagues go through the same thing years ago. Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk

Inclined to agree. 16GB really isn't enough. Doesn't take long to fill it with after several apps, photos and movies. I know loads of people who struggle with 16GB because they get full of photos and apps. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    The Samsung Galaxy S7 Thread

Depends if stock arrived in batches. To meet demand a manufacturer may just send phoned from a pool of stock and let a disti flash it with the correct F/W, put bits in a box etc. I've seen flashing stations and had this experience 1st hand. That said still poor show. A little bit of thought would have gone a long way. Sent from my SM-G925F using Tapatalk

I bet it's nothing to do with QC checks. That makes no sense if you think about it. My guess is they were opened to add something to the box or flash the handset latest network F/W. Happens a lot. Sent from my SM-G925F using Tapatalk

Anyone who got the S7E had the seal on the box broken? On a separate note my one came with a USB OTG adapter which was a nice bonus.
